How do you seal a tub?

I have replaced a tub in a mobile home. The tub is about 1" shorter than the space it slips into because i swapped out gypsum for tileboard. how do i seal around the tub when it doesn't butt up against the wall precisely?

Hi there, the first thing that came to my mind is tub and bath caulking.

caulking will seal around the tub but i do not know if it will work in a 1/2-1" crevice between the tub and the wall. then again, i guess i will never know if i don't try. but actually, i may have hit upon a solution! i think i could add a 1x 4 between the wall and the tub and then caulk. i am just hoping to not have to disconnect the tub again. thanks for your help.

There is a caulk product that looks like wide tape and is on a roll. I have seen it in Lowe's recently. I used it several years ago in a bathroom that had a weird shaped tub. I've put a link for some that is 1 5/8" x 11'.
