Sometimes it can mean too much watering.
Check with your local nursery.
It’s blight. Rotate your planting design and try not to have potatoes nearby because they also get blight. You’ll want to rotate their planting location every year. Hope that helps
It also helps to put a row of carrots on either side of your tomato row as a companion plant. Carrots love tomatoes.

Hi Deborah. Before you plant your next tomato crop, amend your soil with garden lime. Lack of calcium in your soil can cause black spots on your tomatoes. You can put the garden lime on in the fall/winter and till it in in the spring or just put it on in the spring, till it in and wait a little while before planting. Good luck!
