How do I fix the taped corners of a wall?
In my bedroom in one corner the tape that they put in the corner where the two pieces of sheetrock come together is pulling away from the wall. I am assuming that I should just pull it off and put new, but what do I use. Spackle or mastic? Any pointers so it does not happen again would be helpful.

It is most likely due to settling. Don't pull it off. Cut and then use joint compound to smooth the area. Instead of sanding, use a barely damp sponge to smooth.
We've had this happen in our home. We removed the tape first. From there we put a very, very thin coat of spackle where we would be placing the new tape. Placed the tape on top and then applied spackle on top of the tape. We allowed the spackle to fully dry before sanding it to smooth it out. Be careful with sanding too much! You don't want to expose the tape because of the different texture. From there, paint over it!
Depending on how bad it's coming off. You could just wet the part that's coming off. Smear some joint compound underneath the tape between the wall smooth it back out with a putty knife carefully. Then you'll have to sand prime and paint.

Hi! Removing the old tape and redoing it, is a little messy and takes some patience, but, will be worthwhile. If you remove any of the old tape, trim it, don't pull on it, or you could end up with the whole corner to redo (speaking from experience). If you can work the tape back into place with spackle and a putty knife, you may be able to "glue" it back into space. The more repair you do, the more likely you are going to need to touch up the paint, too. Use a light touch (don't glop it on). This is one of those repairs that with some care and patience, you will get a much better outcome. Good luck!
