Hi Jim. Leather needs to be fed to stay soft. I always use saddle soap to clean my leather.
It cleans and conditions leather without a sticky residue. Some are waxy and that produces dust & dirt to be attracted to it.
It’s tried true, been around forever and does what you need it to do.
Enjoy your newly soft leather.
I'd always use natural products to clean and soften leather. So whatever product you ultimately decide to use, make sure that it's made from natural products. Beeswax, orange oil, etc. If there are scratches, you can dye them with products easily found on Amazon or craft and fabric stores. Once dyed, treat your sofa to a good rub down with a leather conditioner. Judy's right about saddle soap, too. The secret is in making sure you rub the product in well. Work in sections with a cotton cloth and when it's dry, buff with another clean, dry cotton cloth.
A lot of people don't know this but you can use WD-40 to clean leather furniture. It works like a charm! https://www.wd40.com/
We have refinished our leather car seats by painting them with a leather paint. They turned out great and wore well. The paint covered spots that were rubbed bare and also covered cracks. Most all colored leather is painted.
The product we used was Leather-Renew. It has 3 or 4 step process.
The website is www.leather renew.com
The results were amazing. Hope this helps
