Hi Lyssa, it depends very much on the type of sweater you use to make the rug. Some are more prone to fraying than others. When you cut the fabric and it seams to unravel really quickly then it will fray, but sometimes that adds to the look of a sweater rug. Here's a few tips to stop fabric from fraying - https://blog.treasurie.com/how-to-keep-fabric-from-fraying/
Hello, I would think would be possible, as I have had handmade braided stitched rugs and and they be worn loose with normal traffic and wear needing to be re stitched securely.
Hi Lyssa!
The answer will differ depending on which type of rug you plan to make. I've included one here in which the hometalker felted the sweater prior to creating the rug. My thought is this will probably not fray. Other types might a bit, but really all it takes is a good pair of scissors now and then and it will look brand new!
