Update an oak kitchen. I don’t want to paint the cupboards. Would like new counters and backsplash.
wash with tsp then butcher block oil or sand and stain
Hi Liz, sanding them and then sealing with poly or varnish.
Yes - sand off whatever has spilled down the drawer and cabinet and the rest of the wood, then polyurethane them.
It depends on the finish and how/if they are sealed.
You might try fine steel wool first. If it's superficial that might work instead of sanding.
You can try TSP or denatured alcohol to clean the wood and see if that helps.
If all else fails for light fixes, this is how I would go about it:
1) Repair
2) Remove hardware (number drawers & doors, place hardware in a sealed container)
3) Sand
4) Clean with TSP
5) Seal to keep the natural color and protect the wood
6) Reattach hardware
