I would use tinsel garland (green for example) and lights wound together then zig zag on the wall to make a tree shape. Or you could put it on a thin board to keep from putting tacks in the wall. Or use command hooks to hold it up then remove them when New Years rolls around. decorate with miniature balls etc
You can use painters tape to easily make one (Frog tape is already green). You can also use command hooks to attach garland or streamers in the shape of a tree.
If you like wood crafts this might be a fun idea. For a wall - connect with a flat board and add a hanger.

I used colorful washi tape one year in my dining room to make a pretty forest of Christmas trees. I didn’t hang any ornaments, but could’ve used command hooks if I’d wanted to hang some.
