I microwave vinegar and water in my microwave. Heat for abt 1 min, then wipe down with A clean dishcloth, or paper towel. If you don't like the smell of vinegar, you can use lemon juice. You'll disinfect, and clean your microwave at the same time.
You have to keep it washed frequently. Take out the tray, take it over to the sink to wash and dry it thoroughly before you put it back in. Be sure and clean the rotator ring under the tray. Also make sure you wash the roof of the MW thoroughly or it will continue to smell (that is the hardest part to clean). The door and all the flat surfaces around the opening have to be cleaned too.
I use a wet dish cloth dipped in hot water and Dawn dish washing liquid. The cloth has to be really wet and pretty warm to cut through all the gunk!
I have even sprayed in a little Clorox Kitchen Spray and wiped it down after a good cleaning.
Using the microwave, lrg coffee mug or small bowl with water in it, heat to boiling this moisture will loosen all the grime inside then wipe clean, then use the boiling water add some white vinegar & dawn dish soap & rewipe the inside everywhere with clean cloth. rinse with warm water & cloth. Clean glass plate in sink or diswasher along with ring(if you have one) that plate sits on. Wipe front and sides of outside with the dawn/vinegar solution before you throw it out. Keeping the microwave really clean will eliminate odors and if you cook something & smell lingers leave door open for a bout 10 mins. after this will also keep moisture inside microwave from building up causing rust or peeling of interior. Make sure you cover food being cooked so it doesn't splatter all over inside even just a moist paper towel over plate or bowl of food makes huge difference, plus food heats faster. I use untreated paper towels or microwave safe lids.
I put in a coffee cup almost full of water and a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. Heat it for a few minutes until it boils. Let it sit for a few minutes before you open the door to let the steam really work and so you don't burn yourself. Take out the mug and clean.
Frank,. Wipe your micro real good at last once a week, unless you have spills. I use alachol spay inside and out. Slice some lemon, and put it in a cup with water. Run the micro, about 1 minute and let them sit for an hour. Remove and use the lemon juice to wipe your counters. Aloha!
