How can I change granite counter tops?
I am moving to an apartment in a senior community. I not only dislike granite counter tops in general, I particularly dislike the color of the one in my new home. Is there anything i can do to change the look of this counter top?

Are you renting or buying? I ask because you need the landlord's permission to make changes if you are renting. But if you have the okay or it is yours to do with as you please here is a site that talks about the top 5 refinishing kits. Also has pics to show you what the finished product looks like.

before you make any changes in your new senior apt you will need approval of your land lords -you will need a professional to remove the granite and replace it with whatever you choose this is not an easy job and the granite slabs are very heavy
There are now granite kits available so I am sure you could find some kind of paint to cover up the present color. You will need to apply a sealer, after changing the color, so check the label on the kit to see what they have in it. The other option is to remove the granite and install a quartz or other good material. Head to a local cabinet store for advice,
I doubt they will allow you to make any permanent changes, I'd opt for contact paper. Just be extra careful cooking in there. Bonus- If you mess it up, its so cheap you can just replace it.
If you are purchasing an apartment/condo unit, I would speak to neighbors and let them know you are pulling your granite out. Others with same floor plans and cabinet layouts, who may not have but may love granite, may want to buy your countertops from you!
Daich Spreadstone Countertop Refinishing kit. I bought my kit for wall tile directly from them online and it was on sale under $100. If you can use a paint brush and roller it is super easy.
Thanks. I will certainly investigate this. It sounds like it would fill the bill!
Hello Nancy,
If selling it is not an option and replacing it with one you do like, maybe use Contact on top of it. or use colourful Worktop savers.
