I would try some Resolve stain remover first. Get the stain wet with the Resolve, wait for about 10 minutes, and start blotting. Perhaps it will come up. Recently--quite by accident--I removed some rust stains from my carpet with an enzyme cleaner for pet stains/odors!
It looks like hair dye of some sort of colorant but may be from a leaky pen too or even a squished stink bug. Nice carpet color selection by the way. Anyways as it may be dye or ink, but sure ain't paint or blood, it is likely going to need a solvent to remove or lighten it. Such as: Nail Polish Remover. Try a product called chem dry stain remover, foam that works wonders. Can buy on line or some hardware stores carry it.
