How do I remove the odor of smoke from a fireplace?

I have cleaned out ashes but smell of burned wood continues to invade family room.

The best is a fumigator - I use Hot Shot as it gets into small cracks and places just cleaning surfaces can't.
Another possibility is to get glass doors installed to close off the fireburning area and keep the smell inside the fireplace...
