My cabinets in my kitchen are dark press wood. Is there a way to paint them to keep the wood look but be a lighter wood color?

Can you paint resurfaced kitchen cabinets? If so, how?
Our condos were built in the 70's. It seems they used the cheapest kitchen cabinets possible. They are resurfaced.
Yes you can paint. But Not really keep the wood look, sorry. The best you can do is white wash or paint. I'd paint and give yourself a fresh new look.
I'm not sure how white washing would turn out, but it should be possible to do that to keep the wood look since it's more transparent.
You can always give it a try and then just paint white if it doesn't work! I painted our cabinets with Kilz primer and Benjamin moreore advance using a foam roller.

Hello Dawn! I can tell you how to paint your pressed wood cabinets with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint :)
It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle.
Step one: Clean with White Lightning
Step two: Apply two coats of Slick Stick if the surface is slippery
Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint; you can use dry brushing to create a faux-wood look
Step four: Use Gator Hide for a water-repellent finish
No sanding required!
I am attaching some kitchens that have been painted with Dixie Belle Paint so you can see the outcome.
