Hi, April,
Landscape blocks can weigh 80 plus pounds, each, making this job tedious and tiring . When doing a wall, you'll need to consider sub surface issues to preclude sliding of pavers over time. A great deal of 2 B gravel and professional landscape fabric, as well as terracing/setback may be required.
As regards using them on the ground, your soil/weather conditions and any slope must be factored into the work.
If you have heavy clay, pavers will shift. If you have frost/ freeze/heavy rain issues, these will also affect the project.
I have witnessed a significant number of failures of walls done by homeowners who thought they were saving money by doing it themself, so prior to staring this project, you should visit a hardscape yard for some professional advice dealing with your specific terrain/soil/weather considitions. Take photos of the areas you wish to address, for the best advice.
We used power grab in between them even though you don’t have to. The ground needs to be dug and leveled before starting. We treated like we would foundation footing and stepped when needed. I’ve had mine around 15 years with no issues and part of it even holds back quite a bit of dirt.
Hi April! That sounds like it will be lovely when it is done. Good luck to you!!!
