Dont worry, it's there. You can't burn granite you just have to do a deep clean. Make the pumice in answer above, then seal. It will be ok.

Depending on how bad it it, if severely damaged, cracked, "can't fix it well enough", and you want to retain a high-end, not patched/fixed look, you can do what I have decided to do - pay tile/counter person to cut out a precisely measured section and replace with a measured size drop-in cutting board. You can find the drop-in frame w/hardware on Amazon.com for size cutting board you want. You can also buy the cutting board online (too expensive for me) or find pre-measured sizes at Home Goods, WalMart or other discount chains. Then it will look intentional and be an added benefit instead of looking patched or fixed. You could also use some epoxy kits to do the damaged section, laying down whatever you want first, pennies, mosaic, photos, etc, and coat with epoxy. Just depends on how well you can fix that part of the countertop and the look you want to achieve and how much effort and cost you want to put into it. I opted for the drop in cutting board replacing the damaged section to avoid a not exact match or a cover-up/repaired look. Get creative, you could tile just that area. Good luck.
