I have 2 lovely Duresta sofas but in gold rust and navy blue velvet pattern Turkestan fabric. All makeovers are given with beautiful neutral furniture greys beige or one colour. I want to brighten up my room and it looks like I’ll have to recover ££££ or change flooring which is a dark mink shade at the moment ££££ the room is about 24 x 12 feet any ideas please ??

Hi Carol, you don't have to change your sofas to brighten up your room. You can brighten up the room with throw pillows, an area rug, curtains and other décor pieces... a large mirror, paintings and also a throw on the sofa can brighten up the space.
I'd pick a tone of the rust or navy and move 'up' the scale but stay in that same range for accent pieces -- throws, pillows, lamp shades, area rugs, drapes, etc. love the dark floors..... take a pillow off the sofa and go to a paint/fabric store to select SHADES of the colors but in a LIGHTER scale ... like you see on the paint chips ... from dark to light, but all in the same range ... and go with the lightest for the walls... and move down the scale for your accessories ... the dark floor will anchor it ... and get as much natural light as you can into the room ... then pick one or two ACCENT colors -- that are complementary to the Rust / Navy ...

Keep your furniture and flooring if you love it and just lighten the wall color and some of the accessories. Switch out some lamps, vases, etc. for something metallic. Add some mirrors to bounce light around the room. Change window coverings to something lighter and flowy. A few lesser costly items and paint color can make a world of difference. All the trendy grays, beige and greige will soon turn to something else. To me, they are depressing, bland, boring and institutional and require pops of color to give them life.
You can use a area rug with a light background that includes your colors. You can also paint the room light in a nuetral color.
