How would you redo this staircase with iron to make less contemporary?
The staircase and area at the tope of the stairs is now sheetrock on the sides with white pipe handrails above that. The stairs are to the right of the first picture (under the circle part of the ceiling) and on the left side of the second picture.

I would do black wrought iron for a contrast to all the white. Good luck
In order to install open spaced iron balusters instead of a solid wall, some portion of the wall will have to be removed. I would consult with a engineer first to ensure that no strength in the structure will be compromised in doing so. You want to ensure that the stairway continues to be safe.
To achieve the desired look, an alternative option may be to install vertical black strips on the outside of the wall, evenly spaced apart, to mimic the balusters; and a wider horizontal molding at the top, to mimic the handrail.
There is a beautiful front door with stain. What about iron railings to open up the space topped with a wood handrail stained like the front door and your floor. It would give a warm feel to the area.
