How do I seal chalk paint?
I just finished putting on the second coat of the clear sealing wax and it is distressing my edges on my project. I thought maybe I was applying to much pressure so I let up. All my project edges are distressed! I dislike with a passion distressed, vintage, farmhouse, and so on. Why would it do this? And how can I fix it?FYI: I followed the instructions to a tee, both on the can and the internet.

Hi there, the wax look is definitely more for farmhouse and distressing etc. I would suggest a clear coat finish next time instead of a wax. Poly acrylic always works great over almost any kind of paint.
Did you let your chalk paint dry long enough before you started to use wax? Some brands of chalk paint will do this, especially on the edges of projects. And sometimes if you have put on more than 2 coats of chalk paint in rapid succession it takes longer for all of it to dry. My experience has been that you can put 2 coats of chalk paint on in one day with a a few hours in between but if you apply a third coat it should dry overnight. You can paint over waxed chalk paint projects with another coat of chalk paint but the project has to sit for at least 30 days so the wax and paint are cured. You don't mention which brand of chalk paint and wax you used--just curious to know if your experiences with a certain brand are similar to mine.
I let each coat dry for more than 24 hours. I put three coats and each coat was over 24 hour drying time.
I used Valspar from Lowe's. Both the paint and wax.
Thank you for responding.
I'm just happy I found this out on this small piece, before I tackle my vanities.
