You have to use the right paint for the job and a good brush or preferably roller!
They do make special worktop paints so I understand.

Hi ! I did this a couple of years ago . After much research I decided to go with Benjamin Moore's advance paint . About $40 for the gallon , but I only used less than half.I also used the primer that they recommend . I scuffed the counter with a sanding sponge , wiped it getting off all of the dust . Used a coat of primer , then the paint. I did a tutorial on this site to see the step by step and helpful hints ! Look under " kitchen re do from ugly 1970's to vintage cottage "
