Well I put ice cubes on the spots where my furniture was standing when I move it, the allow the cubes to melt, and them fluff the carpet gently with a fork. The padding gets the water slowly from the melting ice cubes. It doesn't always work like I would like. With what your are looking at is a lot larger section.
I would try the opposite I would steam it with a wall paper stripper it will breath life into the carpet.
Very simple. Use a washcloth or towel. Dampen and cover area with cloth. Iron with a steam iron. Done
First purchase carpet tape at your local big box store. (It’s double sided). Measure your carpet replacement area in an equal square (makes repair easier). Using a box cutter, carpet cutter or heavy duty scissors, cut a square out where you have the problem. Save this cutout piece. Wherever you have a big piece of furniture or maybe the closet, cut out a an equal square. Replace the pieces of carpet with each other. Make sure you seal your cuts with carpet tape really well. If replaced correctly, you will not see the seam. Run your fingers through the carpet to fluff it up. Consider putting a heavy duty throw rug over the repair while you have your dart game. It will keep the repair looking good. This will only take about 30 minutes tops to fix for a novice.
I like the steam method. Either put a slightly damp cloth over the indentation and then use a steam iron lightly over it. Or better yet use a steamer. I have also had success using the Shark floor steamer. Mine has a rug attachment but I’ve used the floor pad with similar good results
Joan is correct with using a damp cloth over the area & iron (steam if you have it). Keep cloth moist especially in larger areas! God bless
