I would be very careful using harsh cleaners it could damage it further. You would be better off adding a frame to protect them.
Wax. Applying wax on the inside edge will put a barrier between the frame and whatever you use to clean with. You may have to apply more wax if it ever wears off. Good luck.
Place a rubber strip in between?
Just keep your cleaners from setting on the edge. Wipe it dry each time. More damage is occurring when the mirror sweats and frame left wet. Unfortunately it's part of being used.
