The key is finding the right kinds of plants for your space... if you don't have a lot of windows, try something easy like Pothos - it grows well in most light conditions and with any type of soil that you can purchase at your local nursery. If you have lots of indirect sunlight, you might want to try fiddle leaf figs for an impressive display. Just make sure you water them every week!
