Do I need to include a tub in our master bath?
Master bath remodel in the planning stages and wanted to know if anyone has renovated their master bath and removed their tub and only had a shower. We are in the process of getting estimates and contractors vary. One said no tub necessary as long as their is one in another bath (one in the guest bath). We would like a large shower with a bench and in order to get the size we would need to take out the tub and only have the shower. Any thoughts on if we should include a tub in our master bath?

I only have a shower in my
master bath and really wish we also had a bath tub. We have a tub in one of the guest bathrooms, but it isn’t as nice as having one in your master bath! I sure miss mine
My vote is No. I would definitely buy a house with a large shower in the master but without a tub.
Jackie...Have family that removed the tub prior to contractor started the bath which made things a little cheaper and it turned out great. Also had a bench put in as well as rain shower and an area that would hold bath accessories for both husband and wife. They used a shower curtain which was fine and plan a glass door a little later. I do believe you would like the tub sized shower too especially with another tub in 2nd bath as they also had. Good luck!
Hi, Jackie, so long as the house has another bath with tub, go ahead with your large shower. Installing blocking in the walls for grab bars now or in the future is always wise. Having a shower niche recessed in the wall keeps a neater look to the bath. It can be customized to accomodate taller shampoo bottles, as well as a smaller space for bath soap.
Kohler makes a contemporary looking grab bar set that avoids the institutional look.
I would go with shower only in the master, as long as your other bathroom has a tub. Tub absolutely needed in the other bath as it's essential for bathing children. If you have room and want to, make the bath handicap accessible.
