I used chenille wire to attach the ornaments to my wreath. I felt this was more secure. As for a pattern, if you lay out your ornaments in a mimic of the wreath then re arrangement until you like the look. Then take a picture and place on the wreath. I usually end up adding more than planned to my wreaths because I like them full.
