How do I make my baseboards and windowsills look better without completely restaining them? Part of the "damage" is from my kitty climbing and part is just age. Thank you!

I'm guessing that you are saying they are wood no paint? shellac, it is used as coatings for time release capsules and as coatings for some candy so it had better be 'food-safe'.Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lac bug, on trees in the forests of India and Thailand. It is processed and sold as dry flakes (pictured) and dissolved in alcohol to make liquid shellac, which isused as a brush-on colorant, food glaze and wood finish. Provide your kitty with some type of step up/or two so it doesn't have to grab the window sill with claws & pull itself up, this will reduce further damages.
