How do I fix a damaged wood decoration?
I have an item that is raw wood. My kids put polka dots on it in sharpie. how to remove the sharpie? The tricky part is, there is some stamped on lettering in the center I want to preserve. Also, there is a portion I attempted to sand. That was a mistake... but I was angry... lol I wonder if there is a way to restore color of the wood in that area..?

Denatured alcohol! I've used of all over my real hardwood floors to take off latex paint, no damage at all. Can try rubbing alcohol too. First, spot test a part you won't see much just to make sure.
Try toothpaste (not the gel kind). My daughter had taken a sharpie to a wooden end table once. A little elbow grease and it should come out fine. No damage to the table.
In a similar situation, I used a cotton swab & nail polish remover--CAREFULLY!
