How to get inkjet toner out of carpet?

by Jeanne Martin

I was changing the black toner cartridge on my inkjet printer and accidently got 4 or so small spots of black toner on my carpet. I'm a bit scared to try anything cuz I'm afraid the spots will spread or smear. Right now they are really small spots. Maybe I could just carefully cut out the carpet threads (whatever each little thing is called!) that have toner on them? Hopefully it didn't sink down to the base of the carpet and stained that too!

P.S. I have already tried VERY CAREFULLY to vacuum it out but no luck there.

P.S.S. I am a renter...aaaggghhh!

Thanks for any thoughts.

Jeanne,. I'd try vinegar to dilute it. Spray a rag lightly, and brush over it,. not into it.. Use you fingers and pull up on the spots. If they come out. use diluted diish soap, and wipe the spot clean. Aloha!

Oh man. I think it's time to get out those tiny scissors and cut the yarns with someone holding the shop vac right next to removal, to prevent more damage.

If you need to, you could glue in some replacement fibers, stolen from inside a closet. I would prep the replacement fibers by twisting the end a bit tighter after soaking it in Elmer's glue, and then add more glue and use painter's tape to keep the other fibers out of the way and glue it in place. Let it sit 24 hours and see how it looks.

Thanks! I still haven't touched them but it's on my list (and I get brave enough to try!).

Oh but I thought you were so smart! Apparently you’re not! Lol. Perhaps you should Google how to change a toner cartridge! If I were your landlord I would charge you for ruining the carpet!
