How do I clean up a steamer basket?
I have had a steamer basket and have had it many years. How can I clean it up to be shiny again? It's kinda turned dingy gray.

If it's aluminum, and you have put it in the dishwasher, you can not make it shiny again. Something about dishwasher detergent damages the finish. It still is usable, just not pretty. This is why you don't want to put china with gold trim in the dishwasher, or any aluminum utensils that have a polished finish. Especially avoid detergent that has lemon in it. The acid isn't good for the finish on anything!
Mine is 37 years old. Same thing, someone placed in dishwasher instead of hand washing. No big deal, just doesn't look as pretty.
If it’s aluminum, treat yourself to a stainless steel one and avoid aluminum ingestion.
