Cast iron cannot be used since it is cast and not amenable to being reformed as steel would be. Cast iron will shatter.
You could use brass pipes I have seen it .it looks nice black ones
If you want to literally hang wood shelves from cast iron brackets, the physics are that: steel is great “in tension”, wood fails in tension.
The cast iron brackets will need to be drilled to accommodate “Allthread”, which probably doesn’t come any smaller than 3/8” (?) diameter, but you can find it at all full line DIY store and real lumber yards. If your cast iron is smaller than that, let me know.
You’ll need very big steel washers, smaller washers and matching nuts.
The Allthread will be like stringing the shelves, with a very big washer and nut under the bottom of the shelf, then a smaller washer and nut on top of the bracket.
If the iron compromised from old age and has permeated rust or hairline fractures, nothing will work, in a high load application.
