Use an unbleached paper filter from a name brand company, designed for your size and style of coffeemaker. You should be using very cold (refrigerated) filtered water.

Your coffee maker should be regularly cleaned with citric acid, or vinegar and filtered water, then run through at least 3 times with clear water.

Your coffee must be ground for your type of coffeemaker. Using an espresso grind in a drip maker may produce more oil on the surface of your coffee.

That oil will always be there because it comes from the coffee bean.
