How do I seal a contact paper kitchen counter "upgrade"?
I saw the idea on here to put contact paper on kitchen counters to do a faux marble countertop low budget. I really want to do it but I need to find a sealer to put over the top of it that's actually food safe and water proof. The 2 people that I saw do this on here were doing counters where there was not food prep being done so one had used mod podge which is not food safe. I'm hoping someone can help because google has failed me lol.

Contact paper is vinyl so it's waterproof. I wouldn't put a sealer on it, just treat it gently. Don't cut anything on your countertops and make sure that you put pot holders down before you said anything hot on the countertop.
Hi Anita. Vinyl contact paper shouldn't require a sealant. I definitely wouldn't cut on it! You will have to use a clear plastic or hardwood cutting board for food prep. When you wet wipe it down it's probably wise to also dry it completely afterwards.
Cleare varnish
I personally dont think it is a good choice for a counter top. The chance of the vinyl getting wet, cut or damaged is very high. Great for cupboard doors and low traffic areas but I would not recommend it. Good luck. 😁
EZ Faux Decor makes a contact paper made for countertops. It’s made of PVC, so it is extra thick. Very durable, although you must use a cutting board and hot plates. It can handle heat up to 200 degrees.
