Spread a lot of seed on the ground until they find it. I tried that, but the only animal that found the seeds was my dog.
Put a bird bath by it
When I moved to my current home, I placed the first seed feeder on a shepherd's hook by the lemon tree. Took 5 minutes and birds showed up. Now my over the fence neighbor has a bird bath that runs 24/7 year round. We are in zone 9. I have 6 seed feeders and 5 hummingbird feeders and feed year round. I can easily go through 10 pounds of seed a day. They are oinkers!
