  • After the vanity is washed and dried, then I'd recommend priming it with a bonding primer like this one. It is water clean up, goes on super smooth, dries like normal latex paint, (about 30 minutes) but will adhere to just about any smooth surface. If you don't use a bonding primer, you risk the paint and primer easily peeling off. After the primer is dry, you can paint it with 2 coats of latex paint. I'd recommend a very good quality latex paint in a satin finish so it can easily be wiped down. I love this paint, just used it on our entire whole house renovation! It dried very smooth, and seems to be quite durable too.

Remove all hardware, doors and drawers. Wash down with TSP and then sand the sheen off. Prime with a stain blocker primer. Paint 2 coats of oil based paint.

If it is stain only, you can scuff it with steel wool or fine sand paper then clean with TSP or denatured alcohol. Prime then paint. If it has a sealer or urethane over the stain, you will need to degloss and get rid of that first.
