one way that I've done in the past is using either glass baby food jars or mason jars. Hot glue your decorative pieces to the inside of the lid. Then fill the container with water and glitter, hot glue the rim of the lid and attach. Wa-la!
Youtube has a ton of videos on how to make these using all kinds of stuff. Some people use wine glasses, baby food jars, mason jars, jelly jars, some times the old school gold fish bowl too.
