Chalk paint will adhere great to the glass window!!
Buy the real tiny clothes pens, glue on glass and clip picture in. So easy to change out the pictures, or you can string wire, (or twine) across each row and put the clothes pens on that, or buy some clips and glue on the glass, rather than the clothes pens.
Hi...just a note...they used to put asbestos in the caulk around windows. A friend owned a hardware store and would go to people's homes and replace windows. Later in life, he developed a lung disease related to the asbestos. I only bring this up so you are aware of the material you might have. Usually, they say if you don't disturb it, it shouldn't be a problem.
I would clean up the windows and paint the frames. Then I would get picture mats for the window part. You can find premade ones at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. You can insert the pictures. Then get poster board for the back and hang on hooks that are good for the weight of the window.
I haven't finished it yet, but I'm working on an old window I have. I removed all the glass and distress painted it. Then drew some pictures to fit in the top three panes. I put the panes back in after putting the pictures in. The bottom three will be mirrors as soon as I can find some 8x10 mirrors to put in them. I plan to put a variety of hooks on the sash part for keys etc. and it will go in my kitchen. If you don't draw, use 8x10 photos or pictures in the top three panes.
I did this project with an old window that I distressed . I had thin wood behind the window an glued the pictures to the wood. It turned out so nice! Look on Pinterest, they have so many nice ideas!! :)
We had a couple old windows like those. We went to a glass store and had them cut mirrors to fit the openings. Gave one to our daughter. She loves it hanging in her kitchen.
Hi Christine, here is a link with lots of ideas, if you are worried about asbestos, or buy the proper protective gear to wear while removing it
