How can I stain my wooden deck that has paint on it and is peeling?
I have a wooden deck that I painted with what I thought was a stain. It's looks terrible. Peeling. I want to know how I can "fix" it and make it look decent.

sanding or scraping first.
you'll have to remove all traces of 'paint' --- but I bet it's some sort of colored 'sealer' ... a good pressure wash to remove the loose, peeling stuff, then sand/repair any split or damaged wood -- just be sure it's 100% DRY before you reseal ---

To stain it, you would need to sand off the paint entirely or the stain won't take.
Unfortunately Nik it sounds like you're going to have to sand off whatever product you applied that is now peeling. Once it's sanded and smooth you can reapply a fresh coat of stain, or whatever new product you choose. You can rent a floor sander from Home Depot, Lowes, etc.. Good Luck :)
Use a power washer on hard spray, and it will take off most if not all paint. A colored deck stain should cover over any left. It is what we did. Use a good stain from Sherman Williams. Will last longer.
