How to remove scale from coffee maker?

We’re in Yuma over the winter and the water is very hard. I’ve used citric acid several times to try to remove the scale. I believe some has been removed but the amount of coffee made is less still. Is there any other method of cleaning the scale from the machine ? Thanks

Hello Anna Belle! i always use vinegar to clean my coffeemaker. I let the vinegar sit in the coffeemaker for at least an hour. It seems like it cleans it out well. Some directions say only 30 minutes but I like to leave it in the coffeemaker longer as I get a lot of lime scale. I do this about every month or so. Here are some directions. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/cleaning/tips/a26565/cleaning-coffee-maker/

Gotts love our water here in AZ.........run full pot of vinegar thru it-multiple times if needed & use the hot vinegar that comes thru second time around & no paper filter but if you have filter in reservoir leave it in so it'll get cleaned too - just don't dump mineral residue in bottom of pot back into machine, then rinse w/water several times after til it's not smelling like vinegar most sites people say to mix vinegar with water (half&half) but you can use it straight if machine is real bad with mineral deposits. I do it regularly doesn't hurt anything just takes more rinsing. You should have stayed longer the weather is beautiful and the desert is just full of flowers....most blooms everywhere in ten years plus. It's absolutely spectacular looking.
