I have a tile floor. The graying grout between the tiles is so hard to clean and keep clean. Any tips out there?

Use a scrub brush or even a toothbrush with hot water to clean it and rinse again and dry, this should take off the dirty water that comes off the tiles when you wash the floor and settles onto the grout. Once you get it clean and let it dry, you may want to seal the grout, it will stay cleaner and be easier to clean.

Thank you, Nancy. I'll give it a whirl...or a brush.

I use bar keepers friend and a grout brush. It's a little bigger and stronger than a toothbrush.

You're welcome. Once you get it the way you want it, like others have said, be sure to seal it and it will be easier to keep clean in the future. If you can't get it to the color you want or think it should be, you can use a grout stain or even craft acrylic paint to change the color. I've used the stain and it came out great. But again, seal it as soon as you can.

Thank you for these links. There are lots of ways to clean that grout but I still wish I could just spray something onto the grout and, voila, grout paradise. Thanks again!

  • Once it's clean, put sealant on it to keep it clean

Hello, there are a couple of options depending on the grout color.

Peroxide works great, additionally its now sold with a spray top.

If you have an electric toothbrush that needs the head replacing (something that you should do 3 times a year anyway), use it to scrub the grout lines after spraying peroxide or vinegar and sprinkling baking soda. Once it is clean, you need to seal it with a good sealer and let dry.

Hi Nic, You can make a thin paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Apply it to the grout and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse clean. If the grout between the tiles has worn down too far, it may be a better idea to first re-grout and then seal. You can also buy grout pens to quickly “recolor” your grout and make them look new again.
