I would think it would be okay to fertilize in Texas, we fertilize in mid to late April in Alberta

Hi, I found this very informative article about fertilizing grass in Texas - https://www.zodega.com/when-fertilize-lawn-houston-texas-schedule/ Hope it helps

It is best to do it before the exessive hot weather comes so if you can get a chance to do it in cooler weather it is still okay. Just be sure to water in so the granules do not burn the grass.

I agree - do it now before excessive heat shows up!

You might want to check with your local Cooperative extension. In my zone 7 Spring fertilization is not recommended. Despite what fertilizer companies promote— at my location you want the grass is to develop a healthy dense deep root structure and not just green foliage on the top. So fall fertilization is preferred and more highly recommended in my region.

Your grass type and location will determine when the fertilization should occur there’s a difference between warm season and cold season grasses.

For your local recommendations I would highly suggest contacting your cooperative extension. These offices are manned by volunteer master gardeners on site there waiting to answer the communities questions that know your local situation quite well.

Master gardeners are required to volunteer back designated hours ( plus continuing education) each year to maintain MG certification -this community outreach and education— to help you out— is their goal.
