We have had all kinds from pots in the window, to towers with herbs in holes similar to what they do with strawberry plants, to our now AeroGarden. We love our aerogarden to grow herbs! I dehydrate and save what I do not use daily. You can see and get an Aerogarden from Amazon and they come in many sizes. Hope this helps.

You can even herb garden in pots! (I do)
Put rocks (or cracked terra cotta) on bottom for drainage -- make sure pot has a drainage hold on the bottom!
Fill with good soil. Go to nursery -- even Lowe's or Home Depot -- and pick out your favorites! Enjoy!
if you want a little one small pots are good, if you want a large one, i plant all my herbs around the rest of garden spreading the out and letting them be apart of the entire yard - or you can do a small wood planter box for them :)
