How do I connect a dryer vent that is not the standard size?
The one in our home is exactly the same size as the hose coming out of the dryer. The installers just duck taped it. Well the duck tape is loose and the dryer is spuing dust all over the laundry room and is spreading into my home. Help!!

You can put a ring over it like the ones in the picture below.
Hi Jerri, The tape should be heat tape. It sort of looks like duct tape though. Here's a how to video that shows the correct way to hook up the dryer vent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igqdd2ZFvbk
You may have to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to get the proper size you need.
Hope this helps!
Use the aluminum tape HVAC techs use. Remove the old tape, clean out the lint in the dryer and vent and tape back together with the aluminium tape.
Dryer vent tubes are a standard 4 inches. You might have to buy another vent tube. If you are using the old vent tube with the new dryer it might have shrunk slightly.
They make adapters/reducers 4" to 5" & it should not be taped at all; need metal adjustable duct clamps so it can be removed when needed for cleaning-which needs done regularly #1 fire hazard in homes; put the clamps over the metal rings and tighten so the aluminum foil like part is on piece coming from back of dryer and wall exhaust. If it is ripped, has holes cut off ripped piece or just replace with new one they also make all metal doesn't get holes like foil so no dust gets spewed around. I agree with pipe clamps and not tape like Kathy says. You need to be remove to clean it out. You can also use plastic cable ties.
The vent hose should go from the dryer to the outside vent, and the shorter length the better. The hose can only go a specific distance staying on the inside, but guess what?!! The hose can be cut shorter if you are fortunate enough to have the dryer and vent close together. Whatever the length, use duct tape to secure the hose to your dryer and, if possible, to the vent outside. That’s what it was invented for. Clean the hose and vent at least once a year, and repair it as soon as it gets lose or filled.
I would just buy a new metallic dryer hose that comes with the pipe clamps to fasten. I replace mine every other year. There only about $7
