This is a big job. You need to clean the cabinet doors really well to get rid of all grease. Then lightly sand the doors. If you have a paint sprayer they would look better than rolled on paint. If you do not have many doors you can buy Rustoleum spray paint and then no top coat needed.
Take one of the cabinet doors to the paint department of the home improvement store and ask them to select paint/stains and other finishes and application tools that will work for your kitchen. They have the best selection, the most up-to-date materials and most important, the most informative sales staff to get you what you need for a professional job.
I used a kit from Rustoleum, Cabinet Transformations. Very easy to use. You can see how I did it here: https://www.flippingtheflip.com/2015/09/kitchen-cabinets-black.html
Hi Helen! You can use chalk paint. No priming, sanding or removing the doors! You can check out my guide to painting kitchen cabinets with chalk paint here. :)
If you use chalk paint it's quite easy to do yourself. Even if you've never DIY'd before.
