Hi Wendy, this video will show you how to clean them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2FltIbCaDk
hand wash with degreaser, yup blue dawn works.
I wipe mine with a warm soapy rag in a sink of soapy water and then dip them in and out of the water swishing them a number of times. Then I rinse them under the faucet to run water through them. This gets them clean if they are not too bad and it is done every 6 months or so. Hope this helps Wendy.
Line your laundry tub or bathtub with a towel add very hot tap water and few squirts of Dawn Ultra dish liquid. Soak filters oveenight. Turn as needed, replacing hot water and soap.
If they're exceptionally dirty, use a light touch and a soft nail brush, to dislodge grease.
Dry completely before replacing into hood.
Put a half cup of ammonia in a black trashbag. Add your filter, enough water to cover, and set outside in the sun. A couple hours later just rinse and dry.
Also, you can soak overnight in dishwasher detergent and water. About a half cup dissolved in enough hot water to cover the filter. Or one tab if that's what you use for dishes. This really works great for removing burned on food from pots and pans! That gunk just wipes off the next day!
