Protecting Your Home from Bed Bugs | Bed Bugs: Get Them Out and ...

Hi Judy,
Good advice from the above Hometalkers.
In all honesty, if you have a home you can do alot to prevent an infestation, but if you stay at a resort or a hotel/motel, you have little control over your circumstances. Be cautious and look for signs of an infestation by a visual insection of the bed and furniture. Keep you luggage/clothing away from the carpeted area and near the threshold of the rooms. Make yourself aware of what they look like.
I speak from experience, we stayed at a resort and they were in the couch and my side of the bed, I was bitten and boy oh boy are those bites ever miserable. Take a close look at the mattresses/springs and furniture. They are small but bot invisible.
Monitor who enters your home and stays, vigilance is on your side.
Best to you.
If you have them, exxential oils are what helped us the most. a few drops of eucalyptus, peppermint or other in a spray bottle with water. spray liberally but no need to soak. the smell drives them away. you need to be careful as to what oils you use if you have allergies.
Check mattress if good , put a GOOD mattress cover on box springs and mattress and pillows. If ya already got em, roll up ur sleeves and get ready to work cause they can be anywhere and everywhere. The sprays work pretty well. But everything needs to be vacuumed repeatedly with immediate disposal of swept up debris and bugs. These bugs and live up to a year I believe without the need to feed. So this is gonna take time. Good luck.
