Hello Patti, We have had hardwood floors in our 7 different homes and have used a lot of HW floor products over the years. We stopped using the steam mop when it started blistering off the finish at the seams on a new traditional oil based sealed oak hw floor installation.

The past two years we have been using the BONA mop and solution and we’re very pleased with the results. Bona makes cleaning solutions for hardwood laminate and tile floors- here’s a helpful link.

I have used bona, but I prefer mixing equal parts of vinegar, alcohol and water. Add 3 drops dishsoap and essential oils for fragrance. Spray on, mop with a damp microfiber flat mop. The key with either method is that the floor should dry very quickly. My rule of thumb is that the first area I mop should be dry by the time I get to the far side of the room.

If you have old hardwood floors try using Murphy's Oil Soap which cleans but doesn't strip away the natural woods from your floor.
