if it is old wax that is gummy, stripping them may be required - ammonia will remove wax but not sure if ok for hardwood! are they old fashioned, formerly waxed? if so, try vinegar & water mixed 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water - or Murphy's Oil soap. Barely damp mop. If they have polyurethane Ace Hardware has appropriate cleaners.
Have you tried using Bona? They have a cleaner
I would use an ammonia based cleaner to get wax off anything. Don't use Mop n Wax = it aways winds up gummy. Use a wax for hardwood floors. If the floors look beat up, use Rejuvenate.... its a great product.
Good old reliable Murphy's Oil Soap is the only thing I use on my 120 year old oak floors. Work with a rag to get off the stickiness, do NOT use a mop! The floor will get too wet and can damage the finish and permanently stain the wood. A tough cloth, like a Terry cloth towel, will help gently scrub off the stickiness. Wipe dry. Rinse if you wish, but not necessary unless you used too much soap. Read the bottle for recommended dilution.
I have a square scrubber for sale makes beautiful floors
There is a product at the big box home improvement stores for just this purpose. You squirt it on, let it set for a little while, then use a dry mop to clean. My friend and I did this with the old hardwood flooring in her mother's house and it made the flooring look brand new.
