My question is : Does anyone have ideas to give me on making a bench ?
have already cleaned and sanded area that needed cut the one in and down for it was
two headboards. I had to make one smaller for the sides. This is more open than the other so I'm stumped on color and just how to go about this one. Help give me ideas so I may finish this one up.

Donna Byram on Aug 17, 2014Instead of the normal arms, why not slant the arms so the front of the seat is wider than the back of the seat. Build a platform for a tufted cushion. Tried to find one to show as an example but didn't have any luck, so it would be different. Paint it a dark burgundy and keep the gold stripe but use a darker gold. Photos are an example of the material and colors.Helpful Reply

Christine Brown on Aug 18, 2014Use palletts, ever truck driver has them. Make seat and set outside. All you would have to but is some paint, maybe and old metal swing set, chains and sit outside. People will love it. Dont buy ugly cushion , bright and colorful. The pallet coould make into something to swing your new outdoor swingHelpful Reply

Joan Raines on Aug 18, 2014I have a headboard almost exactly like this and everyone is making benchs now so I cut off the legs and put screw eyes on the bottom edge and hung Sweet Annie and other drieds and hung it on the wall. It would also be cute in a girls room to hang her jewelry, hats, scarves, whatever. Mine also has 2 panels which I will be decoupaging a french motif in when I find just the right thingHelpful Reply

Mcgypsy9 on Aug 23, 2014Jackie...what are you planning on doing with this after you finish it? Will it go outside like your other one, or is this going in the house somewhere? If you could give me more of an idea of what your plans are for it, that would help.Helpful Reply

Mcgypsy9 on Aug 26, 2014Thanks Jackie for commenting....I would sand down the top and bottom of the headboard in the middle, (the ones between the poles) and leave those a natural wood, then paint the poles a solid color and the sides of the headboard a contrasting color. Do the same with the poles and sides of the footboard that you cut in half. Then add a contrasting painted square box to the inside (like where you would sit if it were a bench) BUT I would put that way at the bottom of the frames so you can see the bottom of the headboard. Just in case she might want to move it later, I would also add wheels to the bottom. Fill with dirt and lots of beautiful flowing flowers. OH and by the way, I grew up in the North Highlands area and still have a daughter there in Lincoln.Helpful Reply

Mcgypsy9 on Aug 28, 2014Hey Jackie...yes it was I that graduated from Highlands also, but it was 1972. I do have a couple of friends that went there in your husbands year. Pelfrey and Supplee were their last names. Yes it sure is a small world..we have traveled a lot over the years and have met people the we have known in some way and it is just amazing just how small it really is. Good luck with your bench and post some pics of it when you finish, would love to see it!!Helpful Reply
