    Hi Paege,

    Here's an article that might help you. Something that is not mentioned in this article, but is very prevalent where I live is concrete that cracks in the winter. You didn't say if your patio is concrete, but if it is, look at the condition and also the condition of other concrete patio's in your area. Freezing weather can cause concrete to shrink then warm weather can cause it to expand and even though expansion joints are often used, there is always a concern about cracking.     If you’re going to veneer it with non-permeable tile or add some other topping, you’ll need to make sure it’s draining properly and that the substrate is not shifting nor moving nor cracking.
