What is the best paint to use on an old coal store?
anyone any tips on the best paint to use for covering an old coal store. The walls are pretty black,,obviously lol,, and they’ve never been painted . I tried washing the walls down with lots of different products but nothing worked. I’m going to have to put a false floor down as the coal dust is really ingrained. Thank you

Hi Lyn, you'll need to make sure that you use a degreaser first to clean the walls otherwise the paint won't stick. Once you get the walls as clean as possible and remove any oils from the coal, you can use primer and then paint.
I’m betting kilz makes a primer that will take care of that. Based on what color you intend to paint, it may be tintable. Kilz also now makes paints that include primer but I don’t know if those are any better than other brands paint+primer in one. I do know that kilz makes primer that blocks odors including animal urine, smoke damage, and deep-through stains like ink, spray paint (think neon paintball splatter and spray paint from tagging), water stains—you name it. Gets the job done.
Thank you very much Handygirl. I’ll go online to find this product
