If you have an android phone, download the stud finder app from Google play. It works. It uses the magnet detector in the phone to find metal. As long as the beam has metal (like nails, nuts or bolts) you will find it.
Us studs are hard to find but we’re out here. Sorry, I was digressing.
Nevertheless, there is an AWESOME tool called “The Stud Buddy” and it’s as basic as they come. It contains extremely powerful earth magnets that when glided over a walls surface, it will stick to any unseen screw or nail letting you know the location of a stud without damaging the wall.
