Hi Karen, if you like the size and shape of the area, you can use sand as a base for whatever size and style pavers you want to use for the floor of your patio. Spread the sand 3-4 inches thick and add pavers one at a time and twist and turn them until they are "seated" well and don't tilt when stepped on. You may have to rake some of the sand away each time. Use a level as you work so one tile is level with another. You can spray lightly with water and sweep the sand into the areas between the pavers to make a pretty solid patio.

    Pea gravel

  • We had a concrete patio poured and we also had it stamped. It'll be more permanent you won't have to worry about weeds coming up in-between stones, etc. I'm not sure if you have this in your budget, but you could get a few estimates.

Compacted quarter minus pea gravel with edging says in place quite well. It is onexpenive and so easy to care for. Or for a solid surface brick or cobble stones are nice.
